I got quoted £85 from the dealers and maybe more to get my speedo recalibrated...is this right? seems very expencive...

Better to be this way, i'd leave it. Might save you a speeding ticket. Most new cars are atleast 5mph out and others upto 10mph (mondeo).

i'm good with speed cameras as i rarely pass them...lol but it does annoy me that i can't see what speed im actually doing lol especially when u get irritated bmw drivers up your ass flashin there lights
I wouldn't of minded if it was just 5mph out....but its practically 10mph out

Is it out all the way through the rev range the same amount?

I'd love to know how a dealerships gonna fix it with the info you've given.

no...it gets worse the faster i get...top speed read 140 on the speedo on the runway i tried it on...and for an RSi i don't think thats right lol
and i don't know how they fix it anyway...im guessing its to do with the ECU as my garage said...

Not much can realy be done unless the sensors wonly which shows up as a different fault.

They always overread though.

i always had a suspision that they over read but 10mph is a lil too much...guess i could just get used to it and save myself some money

  Mondeo TXS Bardge.
are your wheels smaller than standard?
that can chuck the speedo out, also clocking can mess with it. the wonam i work with her husband traded in his 54 plate volvo s40 sport thing, they only got 2 grand for it because it had done 90,000 miles, they went out the other day looking for a new car for her, they saw the car they traded in going for £12 with 30,000 miles on it. and it was deffinetly the car they traded as it had the same scars on the wheel from when she kirbed it. he poked about the car and it was obvious someone has been in at the ecu and stuff cos they were spotless and the enginer not, lol, needless to say the police got called, lol.

used to have 14s on its now got 13s...but i wouldn't of thought that woulda made that bigger differance...as for clocking...its got 78,000 on it and unlikely to have bin messed with tbh...plus the last 2 owners were off here....they can verify millage...its got a custom powerflow side exit and induction kit on it to if that makes any differance...

Check the size of the tyre I've got ever so light different sized (minutly different) and its still gives 2 % difference than it should be.

well the tyre size is 175/45/13 and obviously as standard it had 14inch rsi alloys with bigger tyres on

makes sence now....never thoguht about wheel/tyre size....so theoretically....if the speedos out a bit as standard...to counter the problem i have with 10mph out...195/45/15 should cure the problem or at least make the speedo reading a little more accurate?

I'll work it out I just need to know

What tyres do you have now?

What tyres should the car have?

How far out is the speedo at a set speed ie 10mpg at 70 etc.

looks like the rolling radius is out, like a common problem s sticking 17s ona car which came with 15s, you cant get a tyre with a profile low enogh to keep the radius the same, so it knocks the speedo out a few mph the other way, so like if you were going 70 on the speedo you would actually be going 78,
its the same the other way putting say 14 inch wheels a car that came with 16 will make the speedo read say 70 but you'll be going 62.

the standard profile on manufacurers tyers is about 50/55, so yours is running a wheel about 3% smaller than standard
switch to a bigger wheel and see how that helps,

175/45/13
185/55/14
can't answer last question though but when i followed my friend his speedo red 35mph and i was doing 30mph... but cant tell you anything else thoguh cause i don't know

thats one of a couple of things im buying come payday...just can't decied what ones(will be made by rota as they lightweight)

The Tyre rolling circumferance ie the distance travel per 1 revolution on the 13's is 1487 mm the original did 1705 mm

Thats a huge difference of near 13%

So when your indicating 100mph your realy doing 87mph.

Or when your indicating 70 your realy doing 61mph

Plus your car pilling on the milage its realy done 14% less milage that your clock is showing.

Check the tyres to a correct sized one or least one closer.

195/45/15 would be much closer (still under reads but only by half a percent ie 70mph indicated would be 69.7mph) Gte the 195/50/15 though there cheaper to buy as for the speedo well it will over ready by a tiny bit by 3% ie 70mph indcated is realy 72mph.

I''d need to check my figures though.
