speedo shift light not working

  ph1 black 172
well it just stop working today, i have just removed the speedo unit.

what a job!!!!!!!!

anyway i didnt realise that its was a sealed unit and doesnt have bulbs, it has led things. can these be replaced on there own with a soldering iron?

if so what led do i need?

thanks

They are SMD's and there is a guide in the guides section for changing them, but yes you just solder them but you need a small iron.

I don't think it's a sealed unit just cracks open and clips back together doesn't it ?

When changing SMD's make sure you get them the right was round (polarity) or they wont work.

Lols. That's a great idea.

As said it's not a shift light but i'm sure your engine is loving it.

Well it's not one. It's on over-rev light. Peak torque went a long time before the light comes on !

and as for telling me shut up, pmsl.

Seriously mate, your like a broken down record at times, apart from having fvck all to do with helping the op, the whole "Not a shift light" has been done to death.

Optimum, the best or most favorable point.

Renault call it a optimum gear change light and you set a shift light to light up at a optimum point. Its exactly the same idea just worded different.

If you're going to be condescending, at least be correct at the same time.

It's not a shift light. I'm not sure you'll understand that but it's true.

It's a 'Ooops, you've gone too far. You're an idiot and should have changed gear' light.

best off reading that thread mate. big debate about the light significance. Riviting read.

As for the light on the dash, if you become a member you can get access to the guide section on here and there is one about changing the led's. Maplin would be a good choice though I would say.

Peak power is about 6500.

ok cool. so its not far of a shift light then, as if it comes on your just a tad late in changing gear.

thanks, just got to mend it now. and think i will remove the orange lights at the same time. not sure what colour yet, white/blue/purple/red, or mixtures or blue and white or red and purple.

plus of course one green smd.(for surposed shift light bulb)

i doubt it's the led tbh they have a mtbf of about 100,000 hours

more likely not getting it's signal from the ecu

Yeah I'd be very surprised if the SMD had failed.

Far more likely to be a signal failure.

It could be yeah, are there any other electrical problems with the car?

I'm not sure where the ECU picks the signal up from on the car, hopefully someone else will be able to help you there.

yeah the stalk and ignition makes the speedo do all sorts lights on and the dials calibrate etc. but no shift light.

can anyone confirm on a ph1 that the shift light comes on when doing this?

thanks
