Speedo unit in gearbox

Car  2005 Audi A3 3.2 Quattro

Where is it? How do I spot it? What does it look like?

My speedo stopped working again today and I dont want to have to leave the car at Renault again.

Stick your head over the back of the engine, look down at the manifold, then to the left of it there is a connector with a small metal heat shield on it which goes into the gearbox.

Thats it I think...

Cool, thanks, will have a fiddle tonight.

I was actually fiddling on the right hand side (there is a connector there too)

Had a quick fiddle this morning and the speedo worked for most of my trip to work. Sounds like a loose connection. Ill try get a closer look

Was it that bit I said???

yeah, it looks (feels) like there are two things behind the heatshield, but since those were the only things I fiddled with, its bound to be one of them

Yep, its the little jobbie behind the heatshield...Its not physically loose but after I stick my hand down there and push and pull on it, the speedo works
