Split between Lens'...

  2.2 bar shed.
Friend has a Canon 1000d, does quite a bit of indoor photography as well as a bit of motorsport and is looking to upgrade from the Bogo 18-55 kit lens. Basically theyre looking for a bit more telephoto when theyre out and about, as well as something for a bit more fun indoors playing with depth of field etc. Budgets the limiting factor as always, not really got more than £400 to spend?

My suggestion was a 50mm F1.8 Prime and a Samyang 8mm Fish eye, but im no fan of Telephoto doing urban ex/indoor work. Other idea was the 50mm prime and a 55-250mm F4:5.6 lens for out and about?

Ideas on a postcard really. Similarly, im looking at the 55-250... Worth spending the moolah on?

55-250 is a pretty decent lens for the money IQ wise. its let down with a bit crapy build quality and a micro motor to do the focusing. 50mm f1.8 won't be great AF wise on a 1000D particularly in low light. samyang 8mm is totally manual (both focus and aperture) for the canon mount

50mm f1.8 prime - under £80. Must have item for your bag.

55-250 - very good lens for money, done plenty of actions shots with mine.

Both recommended IMO!
