Spray Guns

So i've been doing some DIY painting with rattle cans recently, and was wondering how the pro's do it and what sort of kit they use.

I was looking at gravity feeds and stuff like that...

IDK what would give the best finish really, because the shite rattle cans that i've used have given my spoiler and side strips a horrible bumpy finish.

so yeah, what are the recommendation on air spray guns and equipment for doing resprays etc.

also where would I get the paint from?

or do i still have to buy it in cans or whaat?

I do spraying at Pendennis super yachts and i have my own collection of spray guns from devilbiss air brush, gravity sri, gravity gti pro, pressure pot and loads of diffrent spray tips and air caps for primers, top coats and clear coats, if you need any help give me a pm bud. Will.

dont matter what gun you use if im honest. its all down to the prep and the person using the gun.

personally though ive always preferred gravifed guns, except when primering then ill use suction or gravi.

depends how much youre panting, what youre painting etc etc.

atm i have 2 guns, 1 i use just for primering and 1 i use for base/2k/laquer, although i should really get a seperate laquer gun.

just check the CFM rating of the gun that it will work with the compressor and try get a HVLP one.

paint you can either order online (autopaint.co.uk) but i really suggest finding a local paint supplier and you can go get it matched to the car then instead of to the colour code. there will be one local to you just find it!

do you have your compressor yet?

I bought a second hand small compressor for a £100, sold the tonnes of cheap hoses and guns that came with it, made £50 back, and bought a HVLP (high volume low pressure) gun.

Start up costs are high tbh (compared to a few spray cans at £6 a pop) and had I not done it on the cheap it wouldnt have been worth it.

Then comes the first trip to the local paint shop... mask, thinners, 2k clear, 2k hardner, primer, colour, tack cloths, panel wipe :dead: nearly keeled over at the final price and it wasnt from the fumes.

If youve got the money and plan on using the stuff for the next many years then go for it I'd say.

But have a look at 2k paints and the dangers of spraying them. You need an air fed mask or a disposable 2k mask (at your own risk with non air fed)

I used to run a body shop a while back, we used Du Pont & Sikkens paints supplied via The Morelli's Group.

My sisters other half sprays crash helmets for a living & uses a company called "Kent Paints".
