Squeaky Tickover.... ADVICE!!!

At my last service the mechanic (local indy) said there was a squeak from possibly the aux belt/alternator. Said it wasn't serious, but if it got worse to act.

Now I'm just wondering if it could be the aux belt (the cam belt was changed a year or so ago), the alternator or maybe even the water pump. I don't wanna knacker the head!

The car is on 76k, fully serviced 2002 172. The water pump has not been replaced, nor has the alternator ever. The car never overheats, nor does it use any water or oil.

To help I've made a little vid (see above).

Any constructive comments would be welcomed.

Bet my bottom dollar its either one of these:

Belts (cam and Aux)
Pulley bearings
Tensioners
Possibly water pump.

I'd replace the cheapest first and work like that. I had same problem on my previous 02 plate 172 and when I had cam belt, pulley bearings and tensioners done it went away and ran very quiet.

Cheers for that, but I'm not about to have the cam belt replaced again!

What do I do, just throw money at replacement parts till it's quiet?!

IMO cambelt tensioner pulley, known to be a weak point, even if it was changed not long ago

Major job to re-fit?

Same price as a cambelt chnage could be the aux belt tensioner or maybe the garage who chnaged the cambelt/aux belt didn't fit all the parts to save time or didn't use a proper renault belt kit (stupid IMO).

Cheers Edde.

The garage used a renault kit, and fitted new tensioners etc. Saw the old ones he'd removed, all looked ok to me.

Would the replacement of the aux belt and/or tensioner be expensive?

And would you not firstly suspect the water pump or alternator?

Either way, I'll have to get it seen to after Xmas...

  RS RIP
mine sounds terrible when cold, dissapears when warm..

Going for the belt change soon, will do my waterpump too
