Standard wheel size?

  Renault meggy
Can anyone tell me what inch rims I could have that would have the exact same outer circumference as the standard trims on a 1.2 Clio Expression QS5?

The reason I ask is because my car cannot have 17" wheels because they rotate less times than the standard wheels so therefore the semi-auto gearbox is not functioning how it should be.

Thank you in advance,
Hixxey

I have an 03 Expression. As far as I know it came with 14" steel wheels as standard or 15" alloys as an optional extra.

I have the 15" alloys on mine. They have 185/55 tyres on as standard but others have put 195/50 and 195/45 on if you fancy a wider tyre.

Dunno if that's any help.

That helps me a little bit, thanks.
My tyres are 175/65 R14
Does anyone know what inch rims I could have which would be the same size altogether

can anyone measure their 16" wheels around the outside to see what it is in inch?
My stock wheels are 72" around the outside and my 17" wheels are 74.5" so maybe 16" will have the same outer circumference as stock?

Thanks

Ok by using Pi I have got the diamter (I think)

Stock wheels are 23

17" Wheels are 23.7

A 16inch wheel with 45 profile tyres would be roughly 56.52 inches round.. according to my sums anyway, not sure where you worked out 72inches for your standards?

You'd be rolling on 21s AFAIK :p

Example 4: The circumference of a circle is 15.7 centimeters. What is the diameter?
example4.gif
Solution:
circum_formula.gif
15.7 cm = 3.14 ·
d.gif
15.7 cm ÷ 3.14 =
d.gif
d.gif
= 15.7 cm ÷ 3.14
d.gif
= 5 cm

So did I get it right in the first place?

72 ÷ Pi = 23.7

I got my tape measure and ran it around the tyre to get 72"

why does the sequental box stop you having larger alloys?

it shudnt make much difference should it?

yu would get less trque at the wheels yes, but the car wuldnt know that the alloys are different.

the car would just be turning at the same revs, just the car moving ffurther than the speedo thinks.

Well I'm not sure I'm just going with what my garage said. They said that because the wheels are bigger the rotation is less and therefore the car went down gears when slowing down at the wrong time.

hmm, well all cars gearing is out when you change the wheels.it will knock your speedo out with bigger wheels, and youll get less torque, but wudnt affect the ratio of the gears relative to each other.
Get the feeling its somethng someones heard but got it a bit wrong.
ike my car had 14's but now 17s. radius 5% bigger. so circumference 5% bigger, so speedo reads 5% less.

not sure how much theory garage mechanic people do, but i know its a damn site less than i do!

But would'nt it effect a semi-auto box more as it down gears by itsself?
I'm really considering putting my 17's back on

Garage are talking rubish the car will change gear to suit the car if you load it with peope and tow the chnage up and down point change aultomaticaly to suit.

Stick them back on Renault have never done a good auto or semi auto box and its not a common (since there so rubish IMO) so problem solving for many place isn't easy.

What problem is it exactly your having?

Thanks for the reply. I was having no problem but I had a light on my dashboard which meant gearbox fault, which the garage blamed on the wheels being too big. Although, the light did come on sometimes before I had the wheels on.

Best take i to another garage if you get the fault again, did it stay on? A proper Renault computer can tell what the warning light is theres also some specilast auto gearbox garages who can fix problem like this.

Yeah, I've said I will never go back there again. Cost me £1300 to fix the 'problem'. So you think I should just put the 17's back on?
