Start and........nothing happens

Got a intermitent problem which ive traced to the ignition barrel, i think

Sometimes if i try and turn the engine on nothing happens. The fuel pump kicks in like it should but the car wont start!!

Ive found that if i wiggle the key in the on position it usually bursts into life after a short while. I have to be quite aggresive to get it going tho which obviously isnt good as one of these days im gonna snap the key!

Any ideas how i can fix it ??

With it not starting im thinking this is a lose wire to do with the immobiliser ??

Are the igniton barrels easy to sort out wiring wise or will this require a whole new barrel and £££££ being spent at my local Reno dealer??

Could be the starter sticking ive had it on mine a few times. If u keep the key turned long enough it eventually turns over.

Yeah ive got a spare key so will give that ago.

The starter motor is only about 9 months old.

Mine is less than 2 years old and has started doing it again

Just went a run, turned the engine off then tried to start it again and nothing !!

I did the keeping the key turned thing and it didnt work so i decided to try the spare key, went and got it, tried the old key 1st just to make sure it was still not going to work and the bloody thing fired into life !!

Cant understand why leaving it 2 mins and trying again resulted in it starting ok. Ive decided to use the spare key now just to see if the original key is causing the prob.

One thing i have noticed the car starting to do is the engine will do a kinda 1/4 start where it sparks up and cuts out before its actually fully started.

Its not the key as it does the same with this spare one.

Anyone any ideas??

could be a dodgy earth onto the starter motor, mine had it a couple of years back. Turned key and everything lit up and kicked in but no fire. The earth to the starter had corroded and was a bad connection, remade that off and it's fired straight away ever since.
