starter motor help

went to start my car tonight and it wouldnt start had to bump start it. When i turned the key there was a grinding noise and then a whirring noise so im guessing the starter isnt catching. does anyone no of how this can be fixed or if there is a guide on how to change the starter thanks

Changing a starter on a 172 is one of the worst jobs ive ever had to do. Never again!

found out what it is its a bolt that holds the starter to the gearbox. Anyone know what size of bolts these are

They are M8x1.5 Grade 8.8 or better.
