Starter motor removal and refitting

Has anyone had to change theirs? I'm planning on doing mine on saturday but just wandered if i should be reconsidering and getting a mechanic to do it instead?

My skills are not that great but i've changed starter motors before...just not on a Clio where it's hidden behind the engine and under the exhaust...

Any advice, warnings or tips welcomed

Right, it was just a wire connection that had fallen off!!! Saved me £85 and only took me 15 mins...nice!

^ was it like a black connection that slips on ? happend to me before had a little fiddle around and since then its been ok, just some times it doesnt start, but im sure the starter motor is on the way out :(

  LY 182
they are a bloody nightmare.
i've not tried it with the 172 manifold on, but i've got a 182 manifold and had to take the plenam off to gain access and unbolt the exhaust manifold to get enough room.
disconnected the battery earth and pushed it to one side, it fell back on to the battery terminal and i didnt notice.
re fitting the exhaust manifold gasket (its razor sharp) i had my finger through it.. sparked on the starter connection i jumped and cut about an inch of skin off and bloody near passed out.

so yeah, get someone else to do it lol

Yeah it was the small wire with the black plastic connector that slides in to a blade. It was still a b**ch to get to but i decided to spend 20 mins fiddling with it rather than taking the exhaust manifold off.

It's starts on the button everytime now and i've returned the new motor that i bought from GSF
