Starting and TDC sensor question?

Other than TDC sensor, sparkplug, lead and battery, what else can cause starting problem??

How to check if the starting motor has problem???

Plus do we need to clean the fuel injector???

Basically, I have new battery, new plug and lead. But still, sometimes it does take a while to start my 172.

I have a new TDC sensor, but is there anything I need to pay attention? Cos it is new type of sensor. Will it cause any problem after fitted?

BTW, my starting problem is not the immobiliser problem, the light did went off. The engine has reaction, but just cannot start up the car. Not everytime, but takes a while when problem happen.

I noticed this on mine and decided to clean the TDC sensor, same problem though - Would replacing it work? Do I have to buy the loom as well? Or could I just get away with replacing the sensor and clipping the existing loom on?

bump!!

I have a new set of new type of sensor. Want to change it. But my garage friend said I may have problem with the new type on my 172 MK2 2001.

Anyone can help?

These are what I have.

Can someone advice me how to change? Do i need to cut the wire?

thanks!

It appears that you have to cut the old connector off and wire in this one. I believe the problem was with the connector failing.

someone else back me up please?

I had the same non starting problem so i replaced the TDC sensor but the problem was still apparent. At the same time i had a banging noise when i changed gear, this was the gearbox mounting bolts (under the battery). Since these have been tightened I haven't had the non starting (or banging) problem again.

That is funny. Did you change the gearbox mount as well under the battery? Or just tightened the bolt?

How can a tight bolt got loose? Crazy :p

Just tightend them, they only needed about 1 1/2 turns. If you try it it's the 2 13mm nuts not the middle one. It took me ages to figure out what it was but I knew it was coming from the near side. At first I thought it was my air box.

Ok i have been down this road... A year back i changed the sensor, worked fine untill 2 weeks ago when it would not start when i was leaving work! So i took it out an sprayed it with duck oil an it kicked in straight away! I then drove straight to dealers an got the blue type with loom as pictured above.

Fitted it when i got home. Not hard to do jus remove the old sensor, cut the loom an join the new loom, plug in an your away! (Connectors are heat shrink i just used a lighter)

Should work fine on yours as mine is a mk1 172 ;)
