Starting problems

  Clio 1.2
Hi everyone,

I am currently having a few problems when it comes to starting my car.

On an average day it is taking around 6 times before my car starts. When I turn the key there is a click but nothing else happens. I.e. No cranking or anything.

And now, when I come to pull off at junctions etc, the car makes a much "deeper" sound and the revs don't move for a few seconds. Once I am moving it seems to be fine.

From what I have searched, could it be the TDC sensor? I have cleaned it many times but nothing has changed. And from what I have read, the car would still crank if it was the TDC sensor?

Any ideas what it could be? And are the 2 problems likely to be related?

Cheers!

Car would crank with a faulty tdc sensor but not start. Seems to be starter/battery/wiring related. Check your battery voltage when starting.

I checked the battery voltage last week and that was fine.

Interestingly, just after posting the thread, the car started first time but was very very rough, the revs wouldn't move and the headlights were dimming intermittently?

I killed it, started it again and it was fine?

Check the condition of all engine bay earths and the starter solenoid control wire.

Checked all of the earths and I even had the starter motor off and cleaned it up inc the control wire. Still no joy.

Clean the + terminal on the battery, including terminals then re-grease and pop it all back again... if that doens't work gimme a shout and I can come out and take a look if you like?
