Starting Problems

Just a quick question,i have a ph1,115k on the clock.Recently and it only happens occasionally,it doesnt start first time....or second...or third,to be honest after about six! times it will start but with me giving it some gas first(pressing the accelerator pedal).Like i said it only happens say every 4 days?.....if i changed the plugs(they are 2 years old) or changed the fuel filter(never been changed since ive owned it 4yrs),would these cure it??
any advice would be much appreciated.

Just an update,have ordered the fuel filter,will attempt to replace it sometime this week,before css though.

Fuel filter replaced,a bit of a jiggle to get out but fingers crossed thats done it,needed replacing anyway.

There's a number of things this could be, but if its not even firing it sounds like an immobiliser possibly, it maybe an issue with your ignition key, have you tried your spare if you have one? Is it even trying to start i.e. spluttering etc. when its failing to start?

could be your idle control valve stuck shut, although should start with some throttle if this was the case, trying cleaning it to see if it helps.

Battery on the key is new,havnt a spare....but the idle control valve sounds a possibility as it is starting with a bit of throttle,but only occasionally...hasnt done it all week.
