fair point, although really the options are
standard system
s/h stainless stealth system - ktec one available at the mo ( just a bit worried after my last experience of a second hand one)
new stainless stealth system - ktec super quiet stealth
ktec stealth system
Btm/yozza stealth depending on price/availabilty
Supersprint one linked above - not sure what these are like

My ideal exhaust would be, stainless, better flowing but not overly noisy and not boomy on the motorway

The only way you could have what you want is buy the best system you can afford, then cut the tail pipe off and weld a stealth tip on.

Getting down to Cardiff will be almost impossible, between work and other commitments. Also the car is at Birchdown for two days for belts, big service and various bits including shocks, arb bushes and a yahoo kit. Then its in for a bit of bodywork.

I thought they might do a deal to get it off the shelf. I doubt many 172's are worth double the cost of the exhaust. To be honest I found them a bit arsey. How many people could justify best part of 800 quid on an exhaust for a Clio, especially bearing in mind this is not some special titanium performance system. Its just a well made stainless replacement for the standard system

Pipe Werx only quoted £450 for a custom system to my spec within reason

  Ph1 172 and Ph1 225
You can buy any system most and get a new tip welded on. That's what I did and it's fine. As long as the gases escape and aren't being trapped behind the bumper and filtering back up into the car you'll be fine.

well depending on what i can get that will be the plan. Think I am getting more stressed because I wanted the car sorted for the weekend

If I can find a good system that sits under the bumper my stealth would be for sale. Not that really helps the situation

PMS is absolutely perfect but it is pricey.

Joints are stunning, welds are quality and it does exactly what is claims. I never used any sealant and It must have been on/off my car 5 or 6 times. I'm debating about putting one on the Cup but, I would advise you get the silenced variant for a road car. I had both options and the straight thru noise was awesome, on track... Annoying on the road

I am happy with my cheapo ebay exhaust.
As quiet as the standard one on the Focus most of the time but sounds good when accelerating hard, and appears very good quality.

Certainly a lot easier to live with than the Stealth piper, for me at least.

I think you're right when you said stealth systems cause the sound to resonate under the car rather than going out the back, when I bought mine alot of people were going for the recessed Piper which despite being identical isn't half as loud in the car as mine is.
