Steering controls dont work with adapter? Plz help!

  Clio Dynamique
Hi, i have a x reg 1.2 phase1 mk2 MTV and i have just upgraded the CD player.

I originally had the MTV CD player which wasnt that amazing and i have replaced it with a JVC KD-BT11 because it has Bluetooth and should be steering wheel control compatible.

So i bought the correct adapter from Halfords (i know it says for Renaults up to 1998, but it is the only one that fits):
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_230735_langId_-1_categoryId_165626

Aswell as the JVC adapter, as the port on the back of the radio for the steering controls is like a headphone socket:
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_230715_langId_-1_categoryId_165626

I plugged everything into each other like it should and nothing? Now i dont know what to do, as i cant find any other adapters that are suitable?

Am i missing something or have i bought the wrong thing?

I would really appreciate any help! Thankyou :)

I had this problem on my Phase 2, it turned out that the adapter doesn't plug nicely into the one you remove from your Renault head unit, and instead plugs into an adapter up behind the clock.

Not sure if its the same wit the phase 1, but it might stop you spending all night checking your wiring lol

You have to be careful how you plug those halfords adaptors up to JVC's, they have to be plugged-in in a specific order which is in the instructions you get with the adaptor. There a pain in the arse. Better with a connects-2 adaptor or something like that. Else take it back to halfords and tell them it doesnt work and see if they can get it going.

A connects-2 adaptor is the same thing as what you have except they are supplied vehicle and radio specific. (They are one piece not in two parts like yours.) Anyway as above, colossuss is correct, I should have read your first post properly (missed the fact you had a MK2 98 not MK1), for a MK2 you do need the other adaptor. Swap it over in Halfords.

This is the adapter you need:
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_230675_langId_-1_categoryId_165626

Installing it is a top dash out job. As it plugs into the back of the clock. And I know thats the right one because its the one sitting my my car right now ;)

Ahh thats where im going wrong, the guy in Halfords did say something about the clock but their not the most helpful people.

How do you take the dash out? Is it relativley easy? Might aswell replace the speakers too while its off!

Thanks for all ur help!

You shouldnt have to remove the dash if you get the one from caraudiodirect, I didnt on mine

I have the one linked, which goes behind the dash, I use a different unit now so no longer need it.

Works perfectly now!!! Thankyou for your help!

Stupid halfrauds adapters didnt work but this one does.

Nightmare to try and fit in all of the wires and connections aswell as the radio. But all done and hidden now, was worth it even though my hands are now covered in cuts
