steering setup/rack choice

  LY 182
unsure as to what to do with my conversion car,,

its my everyday car that will be seeing a few track days when its finished.
at the moment i've just got the electric rack and column on it just disconnected, which frankly is awful.
bit too heavy (although i could live with this)

but the main problem is you dont get any feedback through it whatsoever.. cant feel the front end at all.

so unsure as to what to do with the rack/column choice.

wiring the electric steering is not an option, so i know i need a normal manual column (i think this is half my problem?)
would prefer to not use hydraulic power steering as 1 i dont want the drain on the engine and 2 i would need a fair few expensive parts to fit it...

so the main two options are

manual column and the rack i have now, or with a dedicated manual rack from a lesser clio.

main thing im worried about with both are the electric rack wont give me the feel through the steering i want
and that the manual rack will be too many turns lock to lock for track use??

could somebody in the know advise?
cheers
