Steering wheel squeaking

Recently the wheel on my 172 has started squeaking.. it sounds a bit like something is stuck between the wheel and the steering column and when you turn makes quitea bad noise. Any ideas what this could be?

Cheers

I had a similar one with my old car, but it was more of a grinding noise. Turned out it just had a lot of dust in the steering wheel column.

Try and get the wheel off (obviously disconnecting the battery first, to avoid the airbag going off in your face) and check it out. Bit of WD-40 or GT85 won't go a miss while you're in there either.

Seems to have got worse now, it actually gives a bit of resistance when i'm turning the wheel and turning doesn't feel smooth sometimes anymore.

Any ideas what this is? :dapprove:
