The wheel on my mk1 172 is shabby and I have recently picked one up cheap on ebay. Can I just swap the airbag from mine into the new wheel without its airbag?

Yes you can, I did and its never been a problem. When it comes down to it the airbag and wheel are 2 seperate parts just screwed together.

so does that mean u can remove the wheel without having to have the airbag disconnected first??? i want to get my wheel off my mk1 172 releatherd

No you have to unscrew the airbag disconnect it then undo the wheel. Its also advisable to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes before.
