Stiff shift - too stiff!

I fitted my stiff shift 1.0 with brass bushes last Saturday and it made a huge difference to taking the slack out of the gearbox but it was very, very stiff.

I used copper grease around the ball and brass bushes, measured the collars and all seemed fine. However, I think my brother used the original bolt through the brass bushes rather than the bolt supplied.

I then did Blyton Park on Sunday and after 12 to 15 laps the car was undeliverable. The shift was so stiff I couldn't find gears and nearly hit first a couple of times.

Do I need to swap the bolts on the bushes, do I need to shave a little from the collars? Thoughts?

The ones we fitted resulted in us doing this.

So it's the brass bushes at fault? I thought it may be as shaving from the collars would result in the ball bein compressed further.

What symptoms did you have pre-machining?

Not 100% sure on installation, but from what I gathered the bushes wouldn't fit without force, before we stuck them in the lathe.

We were concerned that if we had fitted them on without working on them we wouldn't be able to get them off. It was trial an error but it fits snuggly now and hasn't caused any problems since as far as I'm aware.

You need to file it a little if it's stiff (brass bushes) it says in the guide
