Strange idling

Had this problem for months now and I've been putting up with it because the car runs fine once you're moving.

The problem is as follows:

Turn car on, whether engine is cold or warm, the revs jump up and down a bit and the engine shakes the car every now and then. It's caused it to cut out a couple of times before but it seems to just make the revs jump at the moment.

Anyone know what this could be? Really don't want to take the car back to Renault (its still got warranty left) as my local dealer tends to have ridiculously long wait times for courtesy cars.

Had similar on my 1.6 they changed coils and it still did it, then changed the throttle body and that seemed to cure the problem. Apparently they say its a "feature" on some engines!

Thats wot I thought, especially when you're at the front of a cue of cars, the lights go green and.....its done it again!

idle control valave is what makes sure your revs dont drop too low at idle, could just need cleaning or could need replacing, not sure how easy it is on clio's but on my old fiesta it was a case of undoing one nut un plugging it and a reversal of that to fit a new one. Think you can clean them out with carb cleaner

is the control valve the same as the stepping motor??? cos i had the same problem wiv my old clio, took out the stepping motor and cleaned it and it was fine. quite hard to get to tho on older clios, not to sure about new ones
