Strange problem with ESP I think

  2003 clio sport 172
Hi all,

recently bought a 2003 Clio Sport - love the car and had wanted one for a while. It goes very well except I have had a few strange occurences of the following happen:

When driving very normally (in fact quite sedately) the car will kill the revs and apply the back left brake (I think). It feels like its stalling a little. While this happens the ESP ligh on the dash will blink on/off. When I have had this happen I have NOT had ESP on. To "fix" it I turned on ESP which seemed to stop it. It has only happened 3 times.

I also once had the SERV light and the ESP light come on for a drive home from work (about 30 min trip). The above problem did not occur at this time.

Seems to me that it has something todo with maybe the ESP system malfunctioning. Has anyone lese had this happen? or have clues as to what could be the cause?

Cheers,
Saul.

The ESP + SERV light is a problem with the brake pedal switch (normally) and is a quick job to fix. Mine was sorted in less than an hour at the dealer. Not sure about the other problem though...perhaps a mechanical malfunction like s sticking brake - CAUSING the ESP to think you are driving like a loon, and trying to correct the car?

That problem is 182 specific though not a 172 issue.

Are you sure your switching the ESP on not switiching it off? The system would do this if it were on and had a fauklt or misaligned sensors.

Thanks for your replies.

When this problem occured the ESP was definetly off. It only lasted about 20-30s and then it was back to normal.

Thanks Saul
