Strange question. Phase 2 standard throttle bodies dieing?

Ok Mick, will try both.

Cooksport mentioned to me a part number for a subloom for the pedal, so might get one of those ordered in to make the wiring the pedal directly more simple to do.

Yeah they're right but it's actually for the LHD Cup vehicles which really suffered with rubbing issues in the drivers inner arch liner area. I've fitted a few myself for this very reason... I believe the short loom is around £27 now and It's much quicker to run 5 new wires than it is to strip out the dash, find the existing wires and inspect them for micro breaks.

The new loom won't match your existing wire colours though so you'll need to map your current loom and then go "pin to pin" but it shouldn't take you longer than 40mins. From memory the TP wiring is all in the white connector on the same row.

I hate these kind of jobs though... Ive got a 197 in that the owner dropped off saying it cuts out and wont restart for a while/until its cooled which sounds like typical CPS failure but after a 30mile trip data logging, scoping, stopping and letting it sit hot I cant see any faults or rectify the original complaint.

Don't forget the gearbox area loom section to. I stripped one down and found powdered battery acid which ha slowly destroyed most of the lines yet the outside/loom tape looked mint.

I've had a fuel pump on my 197 go, not unheard of.... it just cut out after some hero driving, had to tow it home!

Over on 197net there seems to be a few different faults relating to fuel pump issues. Luckily mine just died so the fault was pretty easy to trace.

That's where I'm at with my thinking now Gaz because the scope traces show no faults what so ever and I just cannot replicate the fault.

The only fault logged was the knock sensor but that wouldn't cause a stall and failure to restart condition. I also suspect it's got the wrong plugs fitted so coupled with a little limp/flat spot around 2.5-3.5k maybe they're linked... Monday I'm going to hook up a pressure tester on the fuel line and see what we see.

Thread hijack over chip, sorry

No problem mate, especially after all the help you have been trying to give.

Going back to mine briefly though, Ive changed the crank sensor and the crank sensor loom plug, still the same issue.

I took it round to mike at MWM and we datalogged what all the various bits were doing and there was a definitive flutter at the throttle body, but the pedal signal was perfect.

Swapped the body for a spare known working one off James Stone, and it drives mint again now.

Will see if it stays that way as got a trackday at llandow next week so will see plenty of abuse then.

Thanks mate, and thanks again for all your help in this thread.

I have picked up two spare ones as well now just in case it really is eating them like it seemed to be, as I really cant afford to have a failure in germany in a few weeks and lose several days at the ring and a spa day to it.
