strange smell

I have a strange smell in my 182 when window is open and I rag it. It smells the same as a new engine that's being floored for a moment. That 'metall' smell. What can this be?

All cars do it, it's when the brakes, exhaust etc got VERY hot.

My 172 (80 000 miles) never had this and this one (now 85 000 miles) has it only since a few weeks. This is an engine smell imo. Smells just as a new engine

Can't say i know what you mean, but every car i've ever "canned" has had a certain smell after.

it's not after. It's the moment I floor it and take it in high revs. It smells like fosfor

Sounds (smells?) like the clutch...

I'd vote for the clutch - my 182 (12,000 miles) gives that kind of smell sometimes when driven "enthusiastically"...

Ah yes - it could very well be if it smells like Phosphorous. Most likely if it's a new-ish cat.
