Strange smell

I dont no if anybody is going to be able to help, but i have a really strange smell coming from my air vents on my 182 04 plate.
It happens as soon as i start the engine wether its a hot or cold engine and lasts for a minute or two, but the smell then hangs about.
It smells of sulphar or eggy depending on how you wish to phrase it.
I would also liken the smell to a bad catylitic converter.
Anybody any ideas?
Is not my air con as its not been on, also if i close the vents i can still smell it.
