Stripping a 1.2

Im toying with the idea, just to keep my interest in this and to keep me off the idea of getting a 182.
(My cars a 2003 Mk2 Ph2 in Silver, with the orange badges:approve:)

What are your opinions on it? Worth it?
Will it look better?

Im trying to get hold of some Renault Sport seats, which will hopefully make it look better.
What else would I need to pull it off? Roll Cage? (Are they expensive?)

I'm thinking of it too but by the time ive spent all the money on it, i could have bought a 182 and i think it would be better.

Save up n whack the 2.0 Litre engine in it :p

If you're not bothered about the extra noise then go for it!
Bear in mind that stripping it will make it less attractive to buyers.

It's probably the best thing you could do to a 1.2, don't bother wasting money on the engine. Get everything out and you should feel a difference :)

I wouldnt bother with a roll cage, firstly that will cancel out all the weight you loose via stripping. They are quite expensive, and if your not doing a lot of trackdays, completely pointless :)

Suspension kit is a must. They're high enough as it is, take the rear out and it looks stupid. The reason I've stripped mine twice and returned it all back days later :(

Sounds strange with all stones, rain, etc. Nice change to exhaust note on the inside if it's aftermarket though...

Yea, Ive got V-Maxx Coilovers on it, so id just wind them down even further.

And, sound wise, will that mean I can hear my exhaust even more so? Its too damn loud as it is haha?

And do you think id need the leather seats to pull it off, or can i get away with my standard Extreme 2 seats?

And tbh, Im not really going for performance wise (as I know a 1.2 will never be fast lol).
Just more on the looks side. (A little more speed wouldnt go a miss though :) )

I never really noticed gains. One thing I do remember noticing is speed bumps. Because it's not as heavy (I guess..) it feels more rough on the bumps.

Yeah it'll get louder but it's bearable. You doing everything in the rear or just he seats/isofix bar?

Edit - Damn.. I want to do it again now lol.

Don't think it's going to make much difference to a 1.2 to be honest. I'd stick with it untill you can afford to buy a 1*2

I'd say you need proper sports seats. Even the renaultsport seats don't look right with the rear stripped.

  Turbos.
I think its fine as long as whatever you do is reversible, but what is the point, really?

As i have realised, there is more to life than having a fast car, go on holiday, toss yourself off, there are loads of other things to get interested about until you can afford a 182.

Ive always liked the idea of a stripped, small engined car. Quite a few around my University (Guildford) and I always have more respect for those cars than a lowered and tinted 1.2 16v. Atleast it hints that the driver appreciates the physics of driving fast.

As for resale....you better keep the seats in the shed ;)
