Subtle Mods to 182

Guys/Gals

As you know I get my 182cup this week.

Now I always have a "fettle" with my cars but never go over the top! like to keep this pretty much standard but with a few personal touches, so I have a couple of Q's for you experienced modders of 172/182's

Not looking for mad power gains, oe serious changes, only tweaking, just to give it that unique feel to it.

1, Looking at changing the stock air filter, Any reccomendations? Looking at either a 57i induction or a straight panel swap. worth doing? any benefit?

2, Theres a pic on here of a 182 with its bonnet open, the "rocker cover" (i think thats what its called) is all RED and it looks awesome! can they be bought? or how is it done?

3, In the future, might change the stock 16's for some 17's... has the 182 got ant fitting problems? (ie, vauxhalls have a dodgy offset! too much weight in the cars means rubber kisses paintwork! NOT good) anything like this on the 182?

Another mod worth doing is fitting silvervisions in place of orange indacator bulbs.

Did Renault tell you of the chip conversion they do specifically for the 182 ??

You want power gains? its the chip they place in the megane sport... £450 gives you 225 Bhp.. I've got that and a K&N 57i Induction kit under my bonnet, nothing else coz Nice Renault start throwing "warranty" clauses at you.
Still its nice to have a nice little challenge against its megane counterpart

When I first purchased the 182 in March I was told by my dealer if I wanted more power they could supply the Megane Chip to increase power output, It gives the 182 the same power I would presume as it remaps, but you dont get the twin turbo head as you get in the Megane, chip only. Its quicker but it burns juice like its going out of fashion though..

Ask your local dealer for more info.. quite sure they'll be able to help

FPMSL, how on earth would the map for a low compression turbo engine suit a n/a lump?!

Sorry mate but i think you may find the information you have been supplied is wholly inaccurate. I have spent c£2k on mine to yield just 197bhp. The F4R engine isn't particularly easy to tune...even with an ITB setup or turbo conv you would be lucky to hit those figures.

NEB, depending on your budget either an ITG panel filter or enclosed Induction kit would do nicely (bmc, viper or itg maxogen).

Also think about an exhaust system as the OE one is poor and will develop a fault before you reach 10k.

i got my engine cover panited by a paint shop you wont get one if you are geting a cup you will have to buy one and get it sprayed !

If you did and paid £450 extra for it you should get onto Renault UK and demand a refund!

Twin turbo head what do you mean??
A head does not have a turbo and any interchangeability between the two engines is laughable.

I take it this post is a wind up lol.

Ok ... I appologise if I may have got it wrong and getting peoples hopes up, But there is a significant increase in performance with the the megane chip in the 182. As I've never had the car on a rolling road, I cant give you a deffinate answer On Bhp output, I just assumed it would be close to the output of the MeganeSport...

you can fit anything to anything. just the brightspark at the end of the keyboard has to know what hes/shes doing.

Well a 'megane chip' would be a map for a turbocharged engine so however 'bright' the person fitting it is there would be no point in using it on an NA engine. This thread is becomming quite laughable tbh

Craig I can assure you that there is no point in fitting a 'megane chip' to a clio.

I believe BB tuning have a 'chip'/replacement ecu for the 182 or you can purchase an SMT6 (piggy back ecu) which allows the tuner to map fuel/ignition etc to the specific vehicle...try PM'ing Andy GDI. Personally i would opt for the omex600 standalone management.

I dont see how it could possibly be. And either way £450 for what is basically a remap is stupidly expensive anyways. Plenty of other places do it for around £260-£300. But i just dont see how a megane chip designed for a turbo charged car would ever work on a clio with a N/A engine. Theres too many differences.

It wont work and Renault do not do remaps for the sport models.

All of the info in the post is incorrect and if a dealer gave that info they should be reported to RenaultUK

If I'm wrong about the increase in power then I appologise but I was told this by a different person that sold me the car. The car does feel quick and I have already pointed out that I could be wrong about it. Doesnt mean to say that I'm an idiot altogether, I was offered this as an extra and I took it thinking it would be an improvement over the standard 182 chip. As I hadnt test-driven a clio 182 before I've nothing to go on but it is quick and I dont get the estimated mpg I should do, All I can say is talk to the dealerships about it..

PS. Noticed you're relatively knew so enjoy your time at cliosport mate....you will learn alot about the car and its tuning potential if you have a read around on here

Renault, Halifax.. I'll get it checked out on monday. But I'll probably take it to Hudderfield coz they can give an independant on it, But I've had run-ins with renault,Halifax before with my old motor.

yeah ... well, they charged me for it, so I'm assuming they fitted it too.

I'll find out tomorrow if they havent or not, but if its damaged the workings I'll be having a "nice" chat with Renault UK

Alright mate the thread lost its way after that mad post.

1. Induction kit wont really give any useful gains the hillpower one may be good to go for semi enclosed so you get the noise with no loss of power (maybe). I have an ITG panel filter which made no difference what so ever. It will be for sale in a few weeks (if you want it) as I am getting some engine work done. The benefit of the panel filter is that you do not have to pay for a replacement every year when you get it serviced.

2. I think hillpower sell these already painted www.hillpower.co.uk they also do a coloured inlet pipe to match which would look nice.

3.IMO do not put 17s on they will slow the car down unless you are only interested in looks and not performance. Offset is ET45.
