sump gasket ?

  MK3 GTI golf 16v
right i have a small oil leak coming from the bottom of the engine, its coming from a join between two parts which are held together with loads of screws. am i right in thinking this is the sump, and that the sump gasket needs changing ?

one of the traders on here before said if it is its about 2 hours + the gasket. is it a simple matter of draining oil, unscrewing this thing, put new gasket on and screw it back up ?

any help would be great, trying to save money by not having a garage do it. not long had all the belts and pully done

bit of a t**t to do, you have to either drop the subframe or lift the engine up HIGH (or a combination of both)

not really a DIY job unless you're good with the spanners! Important to torque the bolts too

ah ok, well im good with spanners but i dont have and engine hoist or anything. roughly what price should i be looking at paying to have this done ? i take it this doesn't really need to be a specialist to do

It's annoying tbh that the frame gets in the way. Would be simple otherwise :( As long as everything is re-torqued correctly, and the sequence of bolts tightened in the correct order on the sump it doesn't require a specialist. I'd go to one anyway if you're near one.

Doesn't "need" a specialist, but you'll mostly find general garages hate working on renaults. They'll probably tell you to ask elsewhere or charge a lot for it.

You're looking at around 2 to 3 hours labour, and the cost of the gasket (£20ish IIRC) plus oil, and it makes sense to chuck a filter on too

and dont round off the bolts, or you'll need me to do this ;)
