sump plug help

  silver clio grande 1.2
i took my car to kwik fit yesterday for an oil filter change and a handbrake adjustment. when i went back to fetch the car they told me that my sump plug was leaking oil badly and asked me if i had noticed any patches of oil on the floor and i honestly havent seen anything the whole time ive had the car. the said they replaced it twice and now it's only leaking slightly. and now im noticing the patches. they said there is some corrosion around it.
obviously im going to need a new sump plug but i dont know how much they are or if it's a big job so i wondered if any of you peeps knew. apparently it's a common thing with renaults.
the only problem is that im driving to north wales on saturday 26th and then to wiltshire friday 1st. do you think ill be alright doing so with this problem so long as i take some oil with me.

thanks :star:

I know my clio is older but i my mechanic told me that clios are one of the only cars that you have to change the sump plug washer on as i had exactly the same problem after an oil change so they probably havnt put a new washer one which are litterally pennies from halfrauds, just not the easiest thing to fit as you would have to drain the oil again.

I would have a moan at quick fit if you didnt have a leak before they got their grubby mits on it!

yep hopefully it is just the washer as said. If they didn't change it then i'm pretty sure it will leak! Did they say its coming from the sump plug?

the washer should be changed every time, there no reason not to, and they cost like 50p!

oh right, so will i need to take it to a garage when ive brought a new one to get it fitted.

You can reue them but for the cost its not worth it.
New sump plugs are only a quid or so from halfords with a new sump washer.

Just clean up the areas before you put it back in with a new sump wahser and it will be fine.
