Sunday driver: Dirty DC2

  DC2 TypeR / E36 328i
Hi all,

Don't get to drive the DC2 often now, so when I do it always feels like an event. I pretty much always take the camera and piss about somehow. Here's what I got up to today.

Firstly I was going to make a vid showing the cars random misfire that it does sometimes, but all went well when I started the car so it turned into another exhaust video/flyby!

I spend most of my time in the E36 these days, so this was pretty damn fun.

Love that spoiler! And love a good DC2! Prefer the championship white without white wheels but each to their own!

Must feel different to driving the e36!

Did you have a seizure whilst putting the CF dash cover in?!

Hate to be the next owner of this poor thing, not that there will be one tbh.

Aye mate, similar straight line speed but totally different experience. For 6k or whatever you'll need for 2 good examples, it isn't a bad little stable!

The E36 is quite an interesting drive now with the winter wheels/tyres fitted. OEM rear size; 245mm, OEM Winter Tyre size; 195mm.

Lol nah that was done by the previous owner of the clocks, will be re doing it. It's been spaffed all over with tiger seal.

Not sure what the second line of your comment is on about! No need to be an arsehole dude.

Is it still stupidly loud?

u wot mate.

Well it's not Buddyclub loud anymore, but the Apexi N1 isn't exactly quiet.

Problem is with the Apexi is that I love the sound it makes, but as you can see the tip of the exhaust is quite ridiculous. Shame really, not sure what to do with it.

Here's the old exhaust that this forum LOVED.

See I really like the what you've done with the car, but you drive like a complete plank.

Haha just because that's me on a video man doesn't mean I drive like that all the time!

Was a bit of a pansy around the 'ring :)

I started respraying the fronts around 2 months ago lol. Barely have time to think about cars these days unfortunately.

I've got a few parts lined up ready to fit, like non abs prop valve, ultra racing strut brace, carbone lorraine pads, fresh fluid. Just haven't had the time :(

I've only just watched the first video. Typical Honda launch.

What do you mean by that?

Most people launch them in VTEC, but I launch at about 3 to 4k RPM. I'd say it's the best way to do things really. Problem is with roads as they are currently I find the wheels will spin all the way to third, which is not what the DC2 is supposed to do!

On a nice dry warm day, it'll pull away with minimal spin :)

Haha I think I'll buy one of those, love the UKDMhatesyou page. The guy knows what time it is, so to speak.

I'm going to fix it! Honestly! :) Problem is as you can see in the pics the coolant temp display doesn't work on the clocks, but the maker of the signal converter box is making me a new, fully working unit. Once that arrives, and if it works, I'll be doing the clocks again - properly!

I think he was hinting that you may have hung on to the limiter for a bit too long mate

Ah right, fair comment but I can explain.

As anyone who's driven a VTEC car will confirm, you really need to keep them up in the revs to get your power/a smile on your face. So when you're faced with a bit of wheel spin at 20mph due to a slippy winter road, it's best to keep the car going until you're north of 30mph before shifting to make sure you're ready for VTEC in second :)

IMO, anyway.

(plus it sounds naughty bouncing away at 8800rpm)

Don't just give it full throttle and let it spin right up. It's quite a technique to learn but you essentially need to keep the revs up in the power band, but without banging it off the limiter. It takes a bit of practice but if you can judge the amount of throttle needed (bracing your foot is the hard part so it doesn't jump off the throttle under acceleration)

If you're just going bwabwabwabwabwabwa you won't really go anywhere.

This should give you an idea of what I mean.

All IMO of course, but that,

a) looks awful
b) sounds worse
c) repeat a and b

This.

I can't think of anything worse than pulling up to a diesel jag and getting left behind, all the while sounding like a fart through a megaphone.

I know this because I've been there and done it, it's embarrassing tbh.
