Sunroof Is Leaking Again!

The seal on my sunroof is knackered but I know Renualt didnt make it as simple as to have it need just a new seal! Can someone clarify exactly what is it I need, is it the whole sunroof frame. Also in need of a new motor & switch cos all the water has buggered them up too!

Anyone know of any prices before I phone Renault tomorrow? (& have a heart attack!)

I got quoted around £400 parts to stop the leak, but think it was the whole sunroof frame, fitting probably around £150 so expensive job. Get yourself some grease and slap a load on, seal it up and save some pennies!

Id rather get it sorted once and for all. I plan on keeping the car for a good few years so dont mind spending some money on getting it fixed.

You can just buy the seals from Renault Tom. They are expensive though. The task of replacing them is fairly easy mate.

I know the non electric seals are around £40 each i think and theres a top and bottom one!.

Eh?!?

When I asked them for the seal they said I had to buy the lot - £180!

The problem with my roof is the plastic surround has lifted up.. siliconed it and its better.. but not 100%.. Id say 95%.. Do it again this summer, when its better weather to get a good seal!

I did have the problem with the plastic seal about 3months ago but got it siliconed down and it was fine.

I know its the seal this time though, and have been told I had to buy the whole frame if I remember correctly, they dont do just the seals.

There taking the P*** mate as you can get the seals honestly! A mate had a leak from the top seal and got one new from Renault! It wasnt the flush plastic seal on the outside of the roof though(plastic surround).

Mine is definetly the plastuc surround - you can see its massive.. now with silicone, you can squish water out sometimes - great game finding where its getting in..

Yea, they do...

..but they dont drain away, and it overflows into the roof lining, then onto my head.

Yep my old car did that and its damn annoying as hell! Clean out the drain holes mate using a wire!

There are holes?! You sure?! Heh, I thought someone said there aint any holes..

This could be the answer - stop those free showers in the morning on left hand corners!

it doesnt - thats the problem, HAH!

*grabs wire and goes to get plunging, brb*
My old R19 used to have drain holes (although a bit small). The rain ran along the channel and down small holes either end. Then down a small plastic pipe inside the pillar and out via a tube under the from arch!

(What a crap design!)

yea it gets into the sunroof controls dont it? the only way into there is the ariel point nut above it... just do it up tight .. try it.. worked for me.. stopped me having in car showers

Ben, my aerial isnt leaking, and it gets into the sunroof controls, central locking sensor etc.. it overflows from the sunroof rails.

Mike, yea, Ive looked, but its a MEGA small hole or its nothing - Need to try different wire methinks.

how do know ya ariel aint leaking Daz? mine still got water where u said ya getting it.. just a place for it to overfill too

Because I know.. hehe.

Its definetly overflowing from the runners - you can see it happening! You look up roof lining, you spray water on sunroof - and you have a mini-Niagra falls.
