sunroofs on 172’s

why didnt they come with sunroofs?

also its lickely 172s/182s will be used on track being high performance so it saves the weight.. lower centre of gravity.. imagine rolling and then being showered in glass. Strength and stiffness would also be affected with a giant hole in the roof.

road cars converted to race cars will quite often have plates welded into the hole if you aint noticed..

Why would you want a sunroof with aircon?

Never used the sunroof on my Metro, escort or VTR.

Lad on RSC has a 172 with a sunroof, claims it was there from new but looks decidely aftermarket.

Anyway as said before, big gapping whole in the roof weakens the shell

Has anyone noticed the outline of one when condensation appears on the roof?

I remember speaking to a Renault dealer when I was buying my 172 and asking him why they dont have sunroofs!!

He said that they initially had planned to put sunroofs in but due to the car flexing from the engine power it caused them to crack and they scrapped the idea.

How true this is I dont know but sounds kinda logical
