Suspension Advice

Hi Guys,

Just wanting some advice on suspension, I've previously had a couple of my cars lowered by various means (springs, springs & shock and coilovers).

What are peoples opinion on just lowering springs? I've seen that a-max springs are just rebranded Apex springs. Just worried they might kill off my dampers?

I've considered some of those v-maxx coilovers but I've only ever had relatively expensive coilovers (AP) on my old Ibiza FR and they were amazing for handling and comfort.
Are the v-maxx coilovers the typical cheap stuff which bounce and crash over bumps?

Anyone elses experiences are welcome, I just don't want to end up buying a kit to find out they have a negative impact on the handling.

Thanks!

If i was buying springs id go with eibach or cooksport only, Definatatly not apex!

I never usually lower my cars as I prefer them to drive than look at, but if I did, I'd only go for Cooksport and Eibach as they get good reviews on here and only lower the car a few extra mm and firm it up slightly.

Renault would have spent a long time and a lot of money designing the suspension on their cars. Many cheap springs, shocks and coilover set ups were probably developed at less cost than their selling price, or at least some of them feel like that. I once bought a Golf G60 Rallye on coilovers that whilst it looked amazing sitting low, bounced and slid all over the road when driven. It was put back to standard very quickly and whilst looking like it was a bit of a tractor, did drive amazingly.

There is a place for lowered cars, usually at shows when they are something to look at or on track only vehicles. But for cars to be used on our bumpy, pot hole infested roads, keep it as close to how the manufacturer intended, especially when the manufacturer is one that knows a thing a two about suspension i.e Renault. How many other main stream manufacturers develop two types of suspension setups for their cars?

Sorry to those on coilovers, this rant is probably something to do with my age ;-)

This is why I thought I'd ask before committing. I have noticed a lot of people do make good comments on those cooksport springs.

How do they alter the ride, at the moment I'm finding the cup suspension not too bad but sometimes can react a bit harshly.

Coilovers bud!

Cooksport springs are the latest must have thing on cliosport and they do seem to go lower than the eibachs. I had the eibachs on my old cup and tbh I should have kept the standard set up for all the difference it made.

Here's a pic of Toby's bean on cooksports - I like it.

I'd say some eibachs and while you're at it new OEM shocks.

A local MOT place took it upon themselves to mismatch my cup pack shocks with non cup front springs and the ride was terrible. Refreshed it with eibachs and it has totally transformed it. Couldn't recommend them any more!!
