suspension kit from a Renault dealer

just wondered if you could get a suspension kit for the 172 from Renault Sport? or do you have to let them fit an aftermarket one?

cheers;)

Well ill guess an answer to this, no being the general answer. The only thing would be to get the clio cup racer suspension parts but that would be very extreme for the road. Also as BenR recently informed me the clio cup racer is still a MK1 with a facelift shell. Im not sure to what degree the set up is changed. There maybe beefier anti roll bars you could nab from them. Remember there are the more junior 1.6 clios which might be worth investigating. Someone posted the number to call renault sport a while back but to be honest i think it would get into silly money if you asked for racing components. If you want some kind of track warrior get a Vauxhall VX220, dont waste your money mate!

VX220 is a bad elise...the front end geometry ahs been changed to create more roll understeer and the rears are beefier leading to more front washout....bad bad car.

as for the cup racer. Bad new there too....they use heavily modified subframes to fit the modified laguna front struts...although the rears will bolt straight on.

also, laguna calipers are used.....and there is some confusion to whereas they are the same as the 172 or cups, as they use the megane coupe 2ltr calipers....but mardigras has informed me that the cup uses the laguna fronts too....but not 100% sure,

Back on topic: Most people just buy a set of Eibachs or Avos and whack em on! K-Tec Racing do a coilover kit if you want to spend a bit more.

or get a caterham r300

hmmmm.....just the way you said it.....could be summed up like....

"ledas or R300....hmmm?"

Hmm could do with a bit more power though

100bhp nitrous kit + Supercharger

R800 anyone?

LOL..............

anybody see that supercharged K series in CCC....it was as big as the engine!!!

i think the radical kicks ass as a track car, the top spec ones are meant to be able to give an f3 car a run for their money.

anyway, back on topic, race suspension on the road wont really work unless you happen to live in an area with perfect road surfaces (do any exist?) the wheels will spend most of their time in the air on bumpy roads, which is not good for grip.

dropping the car will obviously give a lower centre of gravity, which will help, and a stiffer anti roll bar will cut out roll (duh?) but it might make the car understeer more, i enfisise might.

i would leave teh car sa it is, or merely lower by a tiny amount for rd use.......

i was tapin teh rear wheel yesterday to seee how far i could get it off teh ground.....and it was about 3/4!!!!!!

a good FWD chassis will always lift an inside rear......but the clio does it in quantity!

The R300 is better than the R500, its not that much faster and handling is a lot better. I disagree with the VX220, i think its a better compromise for the road, looks better and hasnt got the ultimate on track adjustibility (in driving not set up) but its still a fantastic machine. Saying its very bad bad is wrong wrong wrong, its just not as much of a tool, but round a track its still very impressive. The engine is also better!

The radical, yes great but its kind of a cheat, it essentially is a race car with plates, not a road car which does amazingly well. Same for caterhams. Not that ill take anything away from them, theyre great, though havent driven a radical. I wouldnt recommend using them on the road unless your driving to a track! Which is why id get a VX220 benny boy!

I wouldnt lower your 172 more than 40mm. Think hillpower 35mm kit. Or, if your a track man you should really invest on some custom made coilovers.

I need to get some footage of the inside rear of mine. According to others, when we all went to the bedford autodrome, i was lifting my inside rear about 20cm off the ground in the first hairpin, id love to see that.

Mate what you been smoking?

lol..im eating sarnies, working and waiting for a call at the same time! But im sure you know what i meant and your being an arse!!

If you didnt i meant the R500 isnt much faster and worse handling

Comparing VX220 engine to elises

and the radical isnt a real car.

*I had that spare eighth stashed here somewhere...*

:eek:so your sayin the vx220 lump is better than a k-series? http://www.esato.com/board/images/smiles/icon_lol.gifhttp://www.esato.com/board/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Mate theres no denying the vx220 is a good car but the elise is better on road or track.

The radical is a real car ive seen one and i was awake:eek: if its road legal its real is it not? does that mean a ducati 996 wsb edition isnt a real bike?

and as for the caterham comment http://www.esato.com/board/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif

im not an arse- i just dont make comments like that.

Radical isnt a car....well, you are a smart one! LOL.....sheesh, they never intended it for rd use, hence the track day special theme.....and rece series they run......jesus.

VX220 is a betetr car....again, its an EASIER car to reach the limit....and even the motorsport version is a good 2 secs slower than teh std elise round some welsh track (forgot). its undeersteers like a barge (but you seem to like this easy diver no talent style)

engine is better, or bigger.......2.2 versus 1.8....hmmm.....and teh k series is good for about 250bhp at cost of course, but tehn, so is the XE ..again.

ROb.....who cares about teh rd....if you really area racer, you should of all people know that you wont drive flat out on the rd, and youll be playing with it on the track.

the R500 isnt much faster.....hmmm 160bhp vs 235......hmmmm.....ok, so the 0-60 might only be a 0.5 sec diff....BUT, what happens after that, 0-100...0-120? i think tehre is a HUGE diff....and its NOT worse handling, you just need more talent o use the peakier engine. Of which, from all your posts, i think your a lazy style driver, untalented and really dont know much apart from what EVO tells you.

Evo would say the R300 is faster, because they didnt spin it so much?

Evo when at the palmer motorsport experience span almost every car, into the weeds all day long.....hence Rock apes, how do i know...my amte is an instructor there and proceeded to laugh throughout the day.

Man, get a grip on reality

OK Ben, you seem to of turned that round to a personal insult.

Its not strange that i like fast cars for the road, i dont drive flat out but i would still want a good car.

I cant be bothered to reply to the other arsehole remarks. I no im not a michael schumacher, thats why its fair for me to expect cars to be driveable and be fun at the same time! Most cars ive driven i drive once and once only, so i have to judge it there and then, so skittish and nervous cars which are only good on a dry track tend to get my thumbs down when it takes ages to get a good time. The R300 is better because you can play with it.

If you dont spin a car, youre not trying hard enough. Evo arent racing, theyre trying to get the best possible lap for a fair result. Your being overly critical and are acting like a typical racing driver, i.e you are better than everyone else!

I appreciate your opinions Ben, but dont f**k around with me.

thanks for your relpies so i suppose that renault doesnt offer anything what i want :( well i now got my [cough] Saxo[cough] at -55mm and i dont have any problems in using it every day, but the build quality is just so poor i cant stand it anymore, just went to look at the172 yesterday evening and saw also the limited edition, all i wanna lower it will be -25 to -35mm so i gonna buy some bilsteins and eibach springs and let renault fit them for me, they also had OZ alloys to swap for the original ones

thanks again, just started work so i wont be on here very often cos i need to get used to it but ill let u now if i know something new

a bit late but happy new year!:p

 BA DUM DUM CHING!

your not a reincarnated Tommy Cooper R u?

JKing.......LOL

anyway, you know where people are trying and when people are just crap......hence why hes an instructor.

Its called confidence......and if you dont have it, surely thats the 1st step to NOT making it.

Anyway, think of it more as a piss take for some silly, generalised comments.......but hell, were all entitled to opinions.....but those sonded alot more than opinions...you werent readin EVO at the time were you ;)

anyway, people will always disgree..........which is fine.....

again, R300 better or easier.....
