Suspension question

  Clio MK 4
because i want to lower my car at least 40mm i wondered which out of these 2 would be best ie the least crashy/bumpy

40mm apex springs - chose these as i want a 40mm drop where as i know eibach wont give that and cant think of anyother springs.

or FK / HIGH-SPORT COILOVER KIT where i'd lower 40/50mm

big difference in price like but wondered if worth going up to collies

apex = pikey springs

coilies = expensive but much better handling. Apparently makes the ride harder.

i would say so. springs generally deal with long compressions (speed bumps etc) dampers the quick bumps.

Springs with standard dampers will be softer than coilovers

o right cause i've heard apex springs make a very harsh ride. so if your saying the fk collies would be worse then sounds like might aswell go for apex. Are there any less of a harsh ride springs? But want them to go down 40mm.

would buying upgraded shocks or dampers help make it ride better on apex?

If i was in your shoes i would save some more cash and get some coilovers.

lowering the car will make it a harsher ride regardless of what springs you use. some will be better than others though.

Lower car = shorter damper = less damper travel = harder ride

springs that are tuned for the length of the damper will be better than springs on dampers they are not tuned to be on.
(which is what your suggesting).

Coilovers will be a better option. you don't want to lower the car then get annoyed at the ride quality of it.

I though coilovers had adjustable ride height, much better option

ye i get moments where i think i'll go for just springs as it cheaper.

then get times and think f**k it i'm going for collies that way i can definetly have the car the height i want. but it loads more.

thing that puts me off collies is that i had fk's on my corsa which i lowered 60mm and it was a harsh ride and was a reason why i sold it. ok they only cost 350 quid but still.

Just save for a decent set of coilovers.

There is no way you will ever fully exploit the current setup on your clio, might as well wait for the good stuff then really enjoy it.

Spring just means a bit lower, bit stiffer.

Coilovers are tuneable. you dont want to get the springs on then think you should have saved for the coilovers.
