Suspension Set up.

I have KW coilovers on my 172 and am having trouble with the setup of the ride height. I am currently running 1.5 degree neg on the camber and 1 mil toe in on the track. I do not know what the caster is.

I have a terrible dead feeling in the centre of the steering. It seems dead and then suddenly darts off. Any ideas?

are you goin for handling not looks? and is it track orientated or road use?

i think 1.5 neg camber is a tad extreeme for teh road, but fine for the track if thats what your using it for. It will also be part of the casue for the twitchyness off the car in a straight line. Castor should be left at standard setting for the road. If for the track, only slightly to aid turn in as most of the weight will transfer to teh front so yuo will effectively roll onto the front of the tyre. SO use some neg castor (use the steering link/track contol arm as a base....completely horizontal is 0 deg, bring it down a bit so that under braking, whenm the car rolls onto its front, it will effectively be 0 again.
toe on the road is not a good idea as its mainly for slow tight corners. ride hieht will have to be up to you.
Just rought guide lines....hope it helps.

The car is predominantly road use but this summer I am begininng trackdays. I know there is a trade off between looks and handling. The trouble with the 1.5 neg camber is before this it was set at 1 degree neg and was understering everywhere. I really need to resolve these issues. One answer I had been given is that the front springs where too hard, however the ride is compliant and not skitty, but I just dont know where to go from here.Tim
What do you mean by toe not being good for raod use? What does a standrd 172 run

normal road cars should run no toe out nor in. On tracks you sometimes run a bit toe out on tight tracks so the inside wheel is turning a tighter radius than the outside.
But i wouldnt bother with toe at all, it wont give you the edge on a street car....only really useful on a pure track car.
My MK1 XR2 which i use as a track day car is lowered a fair amount, the springs are about 190lbs/in front and 200 rear. this makes the rear work a bit harder otherwise it would just be understeering all over the place, but it is skittish if you let off and under braking.
i run about 1.5 neg, maybe even 2, but thats cause its mostly on the track, and tyre wear is very bad. I have had a set of bridgestone road tyres for about a month now and there pretty much half worn out.
you can get a bit more castor is you run the rear lower than the front.....but dont go too over board ot it will affect stability and fast corner handling.
what sort of car are you looking for, safe, neutral or well skittish but fast....cause my XR is a handful on the road.

i have raced the cliocup cars (MK 2s)in asia....abiet only for a short time, but the setup was not radical and the key is not to over complicate matters....simple = good.
lower it till teh track control arms are level (if you run very stiff spirng rates (200+) and just a bit higher if your running softer springs.
sorry for the essay

where did you puchase these coilovers case i asked them about 4 months ago and they didnt have any.
