Taking a hard drive through customs

Are there any issues taking a hard drive in your baggage through airport customs? I've been told that the x-ray machines can wipe it. Is this true?

Yeah my laptop has been through the xray machines many of times no problems.

Depending on where you've come from they may be interested in what's on it.

This is your biggest concern. Just dont have any obvious .torrent files or bestiality pron :nono:
