Tar pads

There are 6 tar pads on the floor of the Clio, 2 in each front foot well, 2 under the seats and 2 in the rear foot wells.

Does anyone know how much these weigh? Whilst I've got the seats out I thought I'd scrape them off if they weigh enough.

  Whichever has fuel
And the boot floor, and under the scuttle panel and up behind the dash iirc.

I think I read it in the Burpspeed thread that all of that weighs 7kg.

And a load on the inside of the roof.

And on the inside of the rear quarter panels.

Brave man taking the roof tar off! My mate tried that and the roof now buckles when it's hot! Lol. (He stretched the roof skin when heating the tar up and scraping it off)

I was just going to start with the 6 on the floor :)

Doing the rest (bar the boot floor) involves taking things out so it's likely to remain intact. At least for quite a while anyway

Tbh when I stripped my old 182 the roof tar was the only tar I didn't take out, I never know that would happen though, good thing I left it lol.

I removed all of the bits mentioned by the guys above, iirc it all came in at just over 14kg.

I kept lumping it all together as I removed each bit, I was shocked how much it weighed.
And that included the section in the roof, as well as some on bulkhead below the wiper scuttle panel.

Is it purley because he used heat and caused the damage himself? Or would removing the tar make the roof skin very thin?

(Ive never seen under the roof liner so i dont know how big it is etc)

Yeah floor tar is 6-7kg, roof tar is 1kg and if you even mildly care how your paint is just leave it! You won't tell a difference and the chances of cocking it up is high. Thankfully I found this out on daves car.

I used a decent heat gun with a variable temperature control, kept the heat setting low but kept working it over the roof section of the tar, as I did so I just crept a home decorating wall scrapper under the edge of it until it peeled away with ease.
no roof damage, kinks or paint distortion atall.
i did the same inside the rear Qtr's.
