After last year's airshow season i realised i need more reach and after some reading up i kind of went big and ordered the Sigma 150-500. Not had loads of opportunities to use it since ive bought it but all the times i have, ive struggled with the sheer size of the thing. im not the biggest of guys and I also have an ongoing shoulder problem which makes it difficult to hold the weight for any length of time when shooting.

So, im thinking of selling it on and replacing it with something a little more manageable.

What can people recommend? Ideally 300mm+, Nikon fit. Budget will be what ever the siggy is worth second hand (hardly used)

What about mounting it on a mono pod?

Forgot to mention that. I did try that but it didnt feel comfortable. Just not "gelling" with it really.

Well you could try Nikon’s 70-300 VR? Mid-size, lightweight, good reach.

If weight is your issue .. how about a decent 70-200 or 300 and then a 1.4 or 2x converter ?!

I think that may be the answer. I very nearly bought one earlier but had to resist as funds are low and I need to buy a shot load of stuff before I go to the lakes in a few weeks.

As already said, the 70-300mm VR is an easy to handle one and cheaper than the 70-200mm which is also larger/heavier as it's a prime lens.

Or you could go old school and get a mirror lens, 600mm for dirt cheap...
