Temp Sensor Fix

  Clio 197
My temp sensor went on the blink again the other day...

So I got my hand down there... moved the wires a bit, and cable-tied them onto the sensor.

Fixed.

So, it's definately a wiring problem for me then.... Question: is it worth getting-in there, and changing the lot of them? (ie: cutting all wiring off, and re-installing new wires).

If so, what wires do I buy (that can withstand engine heat).

Hello Omar. What exactly are the symptoms of a faulty Temp sensor? I had great difficulty starting the car up virtually every time up to about a month ago (lots of turning b4 starting with a bit of petrol smell coupled with high fuel consumption), and since it has curiously cured itself!

Well...

1) the temp gauge went funny... up-down, up-down etc...
2) it died completely.
3) after dying completely, MPG took a dive..
4) car wouldn't start - flooded
5) loud sounding boomy engine
6) idling up and down like a yoyo.

I've had the sensor changed four times now... but it's the wiring that's the problem!

Si I wrapped wired round the side of the sensor, and cable-tied it - so far so good!

PIC?!

Omar, be good to see the pics so I can find the sensor in my bay and see what my dealer did. Top marks to them though. I remember them telling me that they used as a meter to test the sensor and that nothing was wrong with it...then they traced the wiring problem.

To the best of my knowledge, changing the sensor has not fixed the problem long term. So have we definitely found the cause here?

Sorry... I've just not got a chance to take a pic yet.. doh!

But yes - after about four different sensors... it turned out to be the wiring!

Eventually, I will change the wiring alltogether - for some nice flexible cable.
