Tesco Insurance - Great Service

  FTO GPX 2.0 V6
I called tesco today to mention about my wheel change and get a quote on the lowering. They told me that they only insure cars with up to 6 modifications, as over that they class the car as high performance.

They said I would need to remove one of my modifications and then they would let me do the lowering and insure me. I said if i removed the lexus rear lights (I know you'll cheer:rasp: ) and got the lowering done how much extra would I be looking at. They asked th value of the kit (£500) and then said that there would be no extra charge as I was still insuring a car with 6 modifications and that the spring value did not effect the cars value enough. BARGAIN!!

I then asked if I was to get the standard MK2 Ph1 lights and tint them would this be classed as a modification. He checked with the manager and underwriter and they said they didn't know about the legality of tinting the lights, so i stated that as longs as the lights were e marked and the reflector was not tinted they were legal. He said that as tinted lights is not classed as a modification on there system I could get the lights tinited and it would not be classed as one of my 6 allowed modifications!

So I've booked it in for the lowering and will be getting the tinted rear lights now also all for no extra on the insurance!

Cheers Tesco!

I'm paying about £460 FC with protected no claims and breakdown cover with all mods declared. I've got full NCB though, but do have 3 points and accident history. I was with Adrian Flux last year, but Tesco came out cheaper with a lower XS

gotta say i've found tesco to be cheap but i wasn't impressed at all with them when it came to claiming as an uninsured driver smashed into me.

guess its the same for any company though, you only find out how good they are when you come to claim

Its cool, my policy is up for renewel next month so hoping it will go down a bit more again. I guess it depends on if you have declared all mods and whether they class them as modifications or whether they just add them to the notes as with the rear lights I'm after.

I've been with tesco for 3years and when I called up to ask them how much extra they would charge if I got some alloys and a lowering kit they said it'd be an extra 250quid a year. It was a bit of a joke considering the alloys would be 300quid and the lowering kit 200quid. I'll probably stick with them until I decide to get a new car and then I'll shop around for a different company.
