i wouldn't insure my wheel barrow with Tesco insurance....
brother-in-law insured his Mazda MX5 with them, had a monthly payment plan....
In the fourth month the car was stolen, then recovered damaged two weeks later....the car was assessed very quickly and he waited patiently for an offer or authorisation to go ahead and get it repaired....after 4 weeks and another ins payment they still hadn't contacted him....he rang them and was told they were working on his claim....this continued for a further 4 months, there was always some spurious reason for the delay....he had now paid 10 monthly instalments....
Out of the blue he recieves a letter refusing to pay out on his claim, he got on the phone and asked what was going on, this is what they said,
"When the policy was first taken out by yourself over the phone you were asked if the vehicle was alarmed, you stated it was....When the vehicle was inspected at the time of your claim it was noted the vehicle had no immobiliser....it clearly states in your policy schedule that your vehicle will only be covered against theft if it has a 'cat 1' immobiliser fitted"
So the only conclusion i can draw is that they knew the policy was essentially invalid at the time of the theft, but they figured if they could string him on for a few months then its more cash in their pockets.....
he paid 8 months insurance on a car which couldn't be driven....
I feel for all you youngsters out there that are constantly hammered from all sides when seeking motor policies....I didn't realise how bad it was until my own kids started to drive.....How can people justify buying a 500 pound banger then paying out upto 5 times its value to drive it....
My 18yr old, (he hasn't taken his test yet), was mucking about getting on-line quotes for little hatchbacks and I noticed the premiums are still rising....for fun he requested a quote on a 25k Subaru 2.5 turbo, came back at 82,000 pounds.....absolutely shocking, no sane person would ever consider paying that type of premium.....
Just in case your wondering he ran the same car using my actual details, comprehensive cover with 500 pounds voluntary excess, it came back at 395 pounds per year, now thats realistic, (an F40 would cost me 895 pounds per year).....
insurance = biggest modern con in the book.....
