Test drove a 200 this morning...!

Phenomenal car! Tested the Twingo Cup and Megane with Cup Pack on Monday and they were great, but the Clio is definitely the one!

I'm a little confused though. I went to the dealer in Watford, whilst very helpful and unlike the horror stories I've read online about them, I'm not sure they had their facts correct. She advised that if I were to get one, the Cup Pack was something like £1250 added on to the standard car? Yet the Cup is £1000 more than the standard car.

I've just been onto the Renaultsport website and the Cup is actually £1000 less than the standard car? And the option for the Cup chassis is only £450, does that include the full 'Cup pack'?

I was also advised that I could get a brand new one (i.e. spec my own) with 0% finance over 2 or 3 years and have the option of paying any deposit amount or even no deposit at all. Something doesn't seem to add up here, is there a catch?

200 come with all the luxuries no cup suspension, or basic(no aircon etc) cheaper but includes the cup pack.

You can buy a 'luxury' 200 and add the cup pack for £450.

Whats the monthly payment on that?

How did you find it compared to a 182 in terms of handling, power, brakes etc? I'm possibly looking to change my 182 in the near future and I'm considering one.

I chopped my 172 in for a 200, the power delivery is a lot smoother, and better built inside, with less rattles lol

In comparison to my old 172, the 200 is in another world. It doesnt feel as quick, but im guessing thats because its a bigger car and it hasnt got an extremely loud exhaust on like with what my 172 did. Without writing a massive essay, id say they are much better cars than the 1*2's.

Standard Cup with no options they've listed as £17,628. No deposit/p.x. comes out at £735 over 24 months or £490 over 36 months. Obviously laying a deposit would reduce the monthly payments.

Brilliant, although I could feel like I was in a larger car if that makes sense? Obvious statement is obvious and all but it's something I was aware of. Power was brilliant, had to get it revving past 2500rpm or so to get kick though. Handling I can't comment too much as it wasn't a Cup/Cup packed but still very good. Brakes needed some giving as I don't think it had been driven for a while but once they had 'warmed up' they were great, much better than the stock 182s.

EDIT - just seen Harpham's post, can definitely agree with what he said. Generally feels like a nicer place to be, although with the window down the exhaust was producing not a bad sound :)

I love the 200, they look awesome!

But my 172 doesn't rattle, I think it must be the only one that doesn't cause i've heard a few people complain about this...!

Having driven a colleagues in anger around Bedford for half an hour I would love a 200.

It's hard to describe... My 182 is more fun, but the 200 is a much more capable car and better for day to day use. Couldn't get over how direct the steering was compared to my 182 either.

Also agree with this. Because the 172 felt like it was going to fall apart doing anything about 70, it was more fun to drive, whereas the 200 is well built.

Sounds good to me, I think I need to book myself a test drive! I was just worried it might have lost it's Renault Sport feel as I like how the 182 performs and handles.

Can anyone shed some light on the diffence between the 200 and 200 cup?

f**k me!!! For a Cup??? Sure they're not having you on or you've got mixed up with a normal 200? I know prices have gone up slightly, but that will be £4k more than what ill be paying for mine (if I buy after my 2 year deal).

Ill sell you mine for £15k ;)

If someone could confirm my questions on pricing and about the 0% finance, that'd be grand :)

This is what confuses me, I've been quoted £16930 for a standard Cup, however on the paper in front of me it's added 'TLC cover' for £399 and 'G3' for £299 - what are these?!

Total loss cover? and some kind of protection.

I paid alot less than that for my 200 with Speedlines, Recaros, Cup Spoiler(£400), Storm Grey and Gloss Black roof.

All of the points above are what niggle me slightly about considering a 200. A cars' ability will for me, always outshine cosmetic features. That said, I've yet to drive a 200 and I may simply find it to be a refined 182. If so, then great. But if it dulls the handling and feedback of the 182 in comparison - purely to have a nicer cabin and/or less rattles - then I'd be a little miffed.

My old man is a salesman (for Vauxhall i'm afraid) but he tells me that TLC (Total Loss Cover) is worth it because if you or someone writes your car off in the 3years of finance, Renault will give you a new car to the same spec of the one you purchased.

Did you buy brand new though?

Thanks, perhaps it's worth it then!
Any idea about G3?

^ Ill add (after reading Darren's post). Handling is ridiculously good in the 200. You can literally take corners at stupid speeds. The 172 couldn't handle corners anywhere near as well as what the 200 does.
The 200 doesnt seem as fun to drive on a day to day basis, but take it out for a spin on a country road and throw it into some corners and you'll soon realise why you upgraded ;)

Aye. In the 200 you can pick a corner, pick a speed and it will get around it, where as the 182 would probs end up in a ditch. The process would be much more fun in the 182 though.

TLC is essentially GAP insurance then? I'm sure that it can be obtained for less from a 3rd party.

Thats the one you want/need Maccy. Don't bother with the poverty spec 200 Cups, if you are spending that much money on a car you might as well pack it with options and spec it to your taste or budget ;)

If you don't know the difference between a 200 cup and a standard 200 (full fat) do some research and you'll soon know the difference. Too many things to list lol

Don't bother with the gap insurance.

I read on Pistonheads a while ago that some guy got a 200 for like £13k from the dealers. What have you got them to knock off so far?

Thanks, is it really worth the extra though?

Richard advised me in an email yesterday that Albi Blue has been discontinued. Not disputing what he's saying however is this really true? Disappointed if so :(
