The B-Road setup...?

  Italian 3.2 V6
As title this is for advice for setup for English B-roads not track use!!

Are coilovers worth the money for this type of driving or would sportline springs be better value for money, iv herd so much good feedback about these for handling/ride also have a decent amount of travel which is essential for b-roads, cars droped on coilovers are no good on b-roads LOL..

What about strut braces? I assumed this would benifit track use not b-roading as they stiffin the at up, or is that wrong? They would benifit B-roaring?

Alloys, I have some extra light 15" wheels arriving this weekend which will b huge benifit (huge loss of unsprung-weight and alot more agile handling) wearing good 195-50-r15 tyres, that's all good,.... Correct?

Lastly brakes, a decent set of brake pads are an also must yea?

Let me know your thoughts on my idea for my b-road setup.

ive got H&Rs on mine and they are awesome on b roads just stays planted to the road. i had sportlines before and they were ok.

Invest in a decent set of fully adjustable coilovers (bump and rebound) and have them professionally set up for the 'B-roads' so to speak.

Better brakes will make a big difference when getting from A to B quicker along a B road.

Driver skill has alot to do with it aswell. remember when I got beat by the little clio on the way home from the meet that time... Sleeper mate im tellin ya !!!

Fully adjustable would be a bit ott for road use IMO. H&R, KW meant to be good for road use. Vmaxx are meant to be good for the price. Only one's I've been in for any distance are H&R's, very good for road use.

Maybe your right but you can pick up a decent set of fully adjustable coilovers for a similar price of H&R's and you can set them up however you want. But yeah, if H&R's are very good for road use I would go for that, saves the hastle of setting them up too.

Ok thanks for the input guys :D

Braces are a no no then, think I will upgrade to sportlines for now as my ktec ones are a piece of s**t!!! LOL wasted a load of money on these magnesium alloys am getting so will have to save for the coilovers :( and I will purchase some gr8 brake pads asap!! :)

Thanks guys!! :)

on a budget the setup i have is cracking for b road use, new shocks from renault and prolines, i dont have to worry about bumps, it swallows up any road, its cracking

Sportlines in my opinion are awesome, I went sportlines>H&R's>AST's now iv got some more sportlines in the post, best price v performance I think.

I would get some AST topmounts too, so you have a bit of adjustability in Geometry, which is where I will go with mine I think.
Get it pro set-up, winner.

Brakes, Brembo MAX grooved, decent pads (loads of diferent opinions flyig about) braided lines and a decent fluid.

Wheels will make a huge difference.

Having had a Phase 2 on Eibach pro and stock. A phase 1 on H&R's and driven several other makes of coilovers (AST, GAZ etc) and eibach sportlines, Id say that stock shocks and eibachs are the way to go for B roads.

It may be the roads around here but an eibach'd car is soooo much nicer to drive than a coilover'd one

P4ers - Althought Solid top mounts have there advantages I wouldnt bother fitting them for B road driving. I had some fitted a while back when we did the Lakes run out and they drove me mad, they are really harsh for road use, they did seem to sharpen up steering response but it wasnt worth it. All I would say is drive a clio with STM's fitted before investing in a set and see how it feels.

I fitted camber bolts and had the geometry setup and im now running -1.30 camber, 0.10 toe out. Made a nice difference.

Am I the only one who thinks that out of the box the 172/182 is perfect already for fast road use? Only thing I would want to change is the brakes: Braided lines, decent fluid, performance pads with OEM discs.

Great set-up out the box, like all RS clios... I still prefer my H&R coilovers for fast road though.

Having had sports and pro's and coilovers, i wouldn't go back the standard. Unless it was a trophy.

Want my honest opinion on all this..... Buy a trophy!!

I dont agree with the way the sachs dampers work on the trophy (damping, rebound etc) but it works on the road!

Ok cool thanks for the info, think your right about testing a Clio with STM's but I defo need to upgrade springs to sportlines untill I have enough money to even consider coilovers. Would be interested in gettig some camber but need to read into it all abit more 1st to understand it.

P.s we need to meet up for another run sometime, u me n the others! Was a good day out!

I would but cant afford one plus way to Much hassle selling mine, veiwing and driving plenty as I'd want a mint one.

Im with you on that one.

Its far more fun as standard, needs brakes though.

H&R coilovers if you want to change the sus though, preferred standard over sportlines on the cup.

to be fair i cant really say as i have never been in a 1*2 with standard suspension lol, i bought mine with ktec springs which were fitted by the previouse owner :(

was the cup 172 setup different to the 172s? i dont know tbh?

copy the trophy setup job done im sure you would be able to get around buying the sus etc from ren and other bits you would need.

ha, just a bit ! the front dampers are £1142.90 each plus VAT, the rears are £109.47 each plus VAT. £2792.78 including VAT in total. Thats just for the dampers...

Sportlines are an improvment to standard springs tho arnt they? Ride quality, handling, little bit of a drop.. All those are better than stock surely!?

Ride quality is rock hard in comparison to standard.

Less body roll in corners, but less steering feel too.

Good drop though.
