The best way to get rid of a scratch on a car?

  Peugeot 207
Iv'e got a scratch down the side of my car, nothing major but I want rid of it so I can sell it, Iv'e been told it will cost £400 to put right as the whole door will need respraying but in my opinion its only a hairline scratch, Iv'e tried t-cutting it at no avail and bought a spray can of matching paint but it's proving a real pain to use . Any suggestions welcomed

Maybe try getting a detailer to look at it to see if they can use polishing compounds to remove it.
A bodyshop will want to respray it and likely blend into the panels next to it.
I believe it's very difficult (correct me if I'm wrong) to paint an aged panel and for it to match the panels next to it perfectly.
Silver is the worst colour to match apparently.

Yes agreed I would have thought that as my car is 4 yrs old so new paint wouldn't match up 100% with weathered paint, my cars metallic red, have been told metallic is quite difficult to match up too

It depends whether it is deep enough to require a respray or how badly you want it dealt with.
Not sure where you're based but I have used a guy called Paul at Midlands Detailing (http://www.midlandsdetailing.co.uk/index.html) in/around Smethwick/Warley.
You could always call him/drive to him to get his thoughts on it if he is not too far from you.
