The Clutch Creak

  Saab 93 Aero Wagon
My clutch has been creaking for about a year now and its now gettin noticeably worse again now the weather has warmed up.

I've searched on here for a definate cure but no one seems to have one.
Some suggest replacing the cable, others then say its not the cable.:S

Does anyone have a definate cure?? Tis driving me up the wall...

I changed my cable and it cured mine :D . Not sayin it will cure yours but its cheaper than a clutch gotta be worth a try ! B****RD to change yourself tho !!

Funny you should say that Sketty but my release bearing is indeed starting to grumble....it squeeks when cold on the first start up.

So are the two related?

lol.

there you are mate^^ could be:
new clutch
or New cable
or new release bearing.

Narrows it down a bit ;)
TBH with you, my first thought would be a new clutch, but If your mechanically capable it may be worth trying a new cable first. Could always remove your airbox and try to declutch manually without the cable to see what noises that makes.

Hmmmm....good call. Think i'll give that a go first before i commit to Rentech fitting a new clutch!

yeah mate. A new clutch is a pretty big job. See guides - ben_p has done a gearbox removal which is the job basically.
Involves subframe removal which is about as major as jobs get :)
However, like I say, If you have strong hands (or molegrips :)), you may be able to declutch using the lever in the engine bay and see what is creaking.

Well i had my head in the bay with the g/f depressing the pedal and as per normal, the noise is hard to pinpoint.

Sounds like its coming from the pedal end one minute, then sounds like its coming from the arm end the next!

mine's groaning loads at the moment. Sounds more like it's coming from the footwell tho.Really annoying, but i won't be annoyed enough to replace the clutch! Maybe some spray grease will cure it!

Mine has just started in the warm weather. Cable is new. My creak s coming from the plastic pivot that the release fork moves on. I found the solution is to put some grease on the pivot.

It does the exact same on the 182's as well. And as others, gets noticably worse when the weather gets warmer.

I think its time the car gets on the stands again for a proper look. Probably having the clutch cable travel halfway around the engine bay on the right-hookers, doesn't help things much?

I hate it, it's sounds so bloody awful, i've had new clutch, gearbox and clutch cable, still does it.
