Ok, absolutely tiny amount of rust appearing on the lip of the boot, wouldnt even show up on a pic so no point in posting a photo. In fact, it could all be in my mind, but no harm in being over cautious...

Question is, are there any products on the market that I can use to seal over the lip to prevent any spread of rust? And how do you use these things ... like say theres noticeable rust, do you apply the treatment and then get some touch up paint to paint over it? Is this a DIY job or best left to a pro?

Ive read some other posts after a search, the closest thing I found could be something like Kurust. Any other products?

it doesnt work, it *may* slow it down, but once rust has settled in its there for good. only way to get rid of it is to physically grind it out or cut out the section.

Exactly.

A temporary fix (cheap bodge!!) would be to flat the paint to the metal and remove rust and treat with something like kurust and then fill (if needed to get a level surface or use a filler primer if minimal) then prime and top coat. If the rust has made a hole (rot) you might as well count the weeks on one hand before blisters start appearing in your repair. I know this from years of owning old cars with bogged up rear arches.
