Things to check- buying a cat-d

Have been offered a cat-d 172 cup, '03' 30,000 with FSH for £3500. Am tempted but don't really know much about what to check with cars on the register:S .Car is already repaired, and been mot'd around 3 months ago. Am going to get a full vehicle inspection done via RAC or someone similar to check car over, usual checks I would do when buying any other car and a hpi to check it is cat d and not c.

So can anyone offer any info on any paperwork which should be present due to insurance, how do things work with inspection after repair and a mate mentioned something about the re-issuing of v5 after repair? Although all paperwork is present on this one, if I don't end up getting this one, would be handy to know for further viewings. Cheers in advance, Kev...........

Don't really know much about the paperwork side of things...

But Ask if he has some photos of the damage, receipts from whoever done the repair work and if it's just bodywork there shouldn't be a real problem.

Seen a CTR for sale with 30k miles on it for £4,500 that was a Cat D and the dude had pictures of the damage, was feck all!

cat d's do not need to go through any retest after the repair they can just be repaired and then MOt'd

Can CatD's range from hardly anything to very serious, chassis bending damage? - Or isnt that a CatC then!?.. oh i dunno ... Is there a point when a car is so badly damaged that they wouldnt even let it be repaired?

Catagory D is generally very light panel Damage.

Cat D is usually given when car is uneconomical to repair, regardless of which panels etc are damaged, i've seen cars given Cat D after they've been keyed down one side, just due to the cost of respray etc. It's different for each one, as stated best thing is to see the pics of the damage before it was bodged, lol.

I bought mines as a stolen recovered and the had smashed thefront bumper of it at a fog light, my dads mate repaired it and apart from a slight ding in the subframe its in real good condition, i got it for 4grand with just 30k on it!! and its got a service history etc! My paperwork does not have cat d write off or anything on it!! Get it checked and if it seems ok do it!!
