thinking about a remap.........

  172cup
Lately I've been thinking about getting a proper ECU remapping done at TDF
I've heard lots of opinions on this, especially regarding aspirated engines.......
The fact I should expect little or no power gain at all, not to mention the stress added to the engine and shortening the lifespan of the pistons.

Does remap reduce engine lifespam?
What's the average engine lifespan for a F4R?
Would a proper/costum remap f**k things up on the long run?

cheers fellas

If anything a 'proper' live remap would be better than a generic one, as it's tailored to YOUR car.

It won't knacker the engine or anything else at all.

I couldn't comment on how much better a live map is to a standard generic map. I had an RSTuner map and it was brilliant. Only cost me ~£40 too (just needed a license).

A live map would probably be a bit overkill, best to do it if you're fitting cams or changing the engine in some way.

That's a good point as I'm running a Milltek with de-restricted cat and Maxogen, nothing fancy.
If i go for the rs tuner what map would suit my mods best?

A remap is a very good mod, but i didn't quite understand, do you have a Miltek decat or a cat? If you map with the cat and then you wish to swap for decat you will have to remap it again. My case - i made a remap on my car with the ph1 twin cat, later i took it off and used a decat, and the result was - i lost low-middle torque and it had a lean fuel mixture. So i didn't map it again but i returned the cat back on (because of the much more low-middle torque and MOT)
Cheers

I still have the cat on but I got rid of the restriction.
what I dont understand is how a generic map can work with either different induction kits and exhaust systems.
that sounds a bit too "generic" to me....
