thinking of next car....

From what i gather the handling of the new style v6 clio is superior to that of the mk1.

i would like to know whether it is possible to modify the mk1 suspension to be that of the mk2?

what are the key differences between models?

i think you can see what i am driving at here.

i would be able to afford an mk1 but want to benefits of the mk2. i am no stranger to modifying and little scares me when it come to making alterations warranty or not! its more a question of if its a financial viability or whether you would be better off buying a mk2 in the first instance.

i cant imagine the differences are that fundamental - its just i understand that the mk1 understeers more and as a result is more snappy when the oversteer arives.

i am an enthusiastic driver and i like track days, i want to exploit the chasiss to its full extent.

in the absence of my renault dealer either having a demonstrater of the new or old model i have not had the opportunity to try one. i live on the isle of wight and to my knowledge not ever has a clio v6 ever touched the shores!

advice appreciated in advance,

cheers,

Weava

i believe the entire rear subframe was redesigned as TWR (responsible for the mk1 rear setup) did a w**k job of it. BenR is the best person to ask. there are alot of differences between mk1 and mk2 steveV6 has owned both so he would be another person to ask

The mk1 isnt supposed to be as bad as it was made out just be careful and youll be fine some different springs and dmapers will help though.

The mk2 has quite a few changed bit you could swop them over but it wont be cheap or easy new subframe etc.

I believe TWR or whatever they were called werent responsible for the suspension and they had told Renult thy werent happy but Renault signed it off.

Springs and dampers wont cure the MK1 V6 woes as that is not the problem. The problem lies in weak components and geometry changes under load.

It is a poor drive.

Bens last comment really puts the nail in the coffin! :(

geometry setup is not tinkerable then? the component parts sound difficlut to replace. sounds like we are not talking uprated rollbar and drop links as with my impreza wrx!

i think the mk2 looks tonnes better anyway. if u could afford it id go for 1 of those.

Mk1s are hardly sh*t tho!
