Thread for professionals only (oilproblem)

A few months ago I posted an oilproblem. I had an oilservice and 4400 miles later, all spots on the dash were gone. We had to refill oil. We looked under the car and there was a lot of oil. We cleaned the oil. Yesterday (2 weeks later since refill), the oil is nearby his minimum again. We looked under the car again and there is oil, but not that much.

This is difficult to explain in English but I will try to explain where the oil is located.

1) You have the gearknob in the car. It is connected with a long iron thing under the car. If you follow that thing, it goes to somewhere under the engine. Where it dissapears, you can see a (accordeon) rubber. I can see oil comming out of that rubber

2) A little bit ahead and above, there is a bigger star shaped screw. Near that screw I can see most oil

3) I have a Milltek since a few weeks, but already the 3rd day the tailpipes were black as the night. Is it possible the care is using oil?

Thank you

The rubber you speak of sounds like the boot around the gear selector on top of the gear box although I don't recall such a setup. Either way, can you clarify as to wether the visible oil is coming from the gearbox or the actual engine block.

If the oil is coming from anywhere on the gearbox before the flywheel, it is a totally unrelated leak.

I would suggest removing the plastic inspection cover from the subframe and have a look around the under side of the engine to rule out any leaks around the block.

It may also be worth checking the coolant tank and also the under side of the oil cap to check for oil/water contamination which would be a sign of head gasket failure.

The final check would be to have a friend follow you while you drive the car. Accelerate a number of times and ask if there was any smoke given off during the drive. Dependant on the colour of the smoke, it will indicate if anything is being burnt and what. From memory, white is water, blue is fuel and black is oil.

I hope this helps even though I'm not a professional.
